Prerequisites

The student has completed HV305 at the academy OR The student has learnt Chhota Khayal in about twenty seven Ragas and is able to present at least 14 Ragas with Swar Vistar Aalap and Taan. The student is able to sing Bada Khayals with Aalap in Yaman, Bhairav, Bhupali, Bihag, Bhimpalasi and Malkauns. The student is able to compose Sargam Geet/Tarana in the Ragas learnt set to different basic Taals.


Overview

Raga Todi signifies a myriad of emotions from pathos to ecstacy. The journey with this Raga begins here by introducing a Chhota Khayal. This is elaborated with Aalap and Taan. The Raga expresses itself most beautifuly in the Bada Khayal. In addition to this there is a Chhota Khayal in Drut Ek taal.Deshkar is another morning Raga studied in this course along with Todi. A Bandish is learnt in this Raga. The Swar Vistar is done with a clear picture of the Raga identity that differs from Bhupali. Raga Vibhas is a morning melody.This Raga has two versions. The version included here would be the Shuddh Dhaivat ka Vibhas.Student composition is done in Raga Vibhas set to any Taal. Listening exercises including Vocal as well as instrumental Music enhance the understanding of Ragas.The mood created by Todi is depicted using mood boards. Theory – Alalyse the fact that there are Ragas with the same name, but different Swaras, the Thaat theory in this context. Comparison of Ragas Bhupali and Deshkar. How a Raga is approached in different ways by various schools of Gayaki or Gharanas.
